In the next in a series of guest blogs, we hear about kindness calendars.
What are your desires for the New Year? If your thoughts immediately jump to more energy, positivity and prosperity it may a good idea to examine your current lifestyle and explore a few exercises that instill kindness into your day to day.
The New Year brings a fresh start and an opportunity to practice goal-setting that could positively impact those around you. By spreading kindness in 2020 you are more likely to inspire others as well as receive a little love in return.
There are many benefits from spreading kindness other than improving your mood and others we impact. Spreading kindness allows us to construct an environment that enhances generosity. This is known as choice architecture — designing your environment to complete your goals and challenges.
Kindness Calendars to Practise Choice Architecture
To provide an activity to put choice architecture into action and gain some prosperity in the New Year, FTD has created 3 “New Year, New Me” kindness calendars that are versatile for every month of the year.
Hang one of their three printable kindness calendars in a significant space (such as your office, bedroom or kitchen) as a daily reminder to pay it forward.
If 2020 has called you to prioritise other resolutions around professional or personal success, they’ve also provided kindness challenges like investing in yourself that are simple and can be easily added to your current lifestyle. Try these with your friends or on your own to enter the New Year on a positive note!
1. Give Back to Family and Friends
Pay it forward to a friend or loved one! Kindness can be contagious and being nicer to your family can make for a happier home! Go out of your way to wash the dishes or do a chore for someone else.
Odds are they will return the favour when you need it! Keep track of loving those closest to you with a daily reminder from the printable calendar below.
2. Pick Up a New Skill
Learning is a great way to stay sharp and increase your brain function. Challenge yourself or your family members to pick up a new skill or hobby to enhance your creative tool belt and add some fun into your life!
3. Show Gratitude to Colleagues
We spend a significant amount of our time at work. Show a bit of gratitude to benefit every person at your office or in your work environment. If you run your business solo, show some love to someone who has mentored or inspired you in the past!
4. Invest in Yourself
Caring for yourself can be the best way to spread kindness. Show yourself some love by expanding your skills or knowledge, caring for your body and fitness goals, or simply cultivating your mental and emotional health.
5. Pay It Forward to Your Community
No effort is too small! Give up some of your free time by volunteering in your community. Organize an event or take on a leadership position to get more involved!
Use this activity to show the ones you love some kindness and bring positive energy into your life. The New Year is all about refreshing for the better, so use this time to practice gratitude and think about small ways you can better someone else’s day.
